Parents' Day

Monday, August 20, 2007

Over the weekend, a special someone made me realize that I had a choice... I could choose to fume, rant, blow up, boil over, explode, rage and seethe OR I could make the best of each day trusting God that He's not out to get me and to look-out for the blessings He's put in my day to help me overcome the things in my life that sucked.

Normally I'd choose to be angry. Its easy and convenient, and an escape from the 'me' that's trying to make everybody happy and never saying 'no' to anyone everyday of my life.

This weekend, I chose to be better than that. I chose to say 'no' to my anger at the seeming injustice in my life, and I chose to not let it paralyze me but to keep forging ahead, getting things done and look out for the good things God has placed in my life. And guess what? It paid off.

These were the things I found:

1. My cell guys are a great bunch of guys. I'm proud of them although I'm not even their real team member yet. I'm proud of them for saying 'yes' to serve when we needed them. Even when it meant coming to church early. When I get a picture I will edit the post for this.

2. I found friends who could make me laugh, who laughed with me, who accepted me altho I'm actually pretty old, who will take the time to spend it with me. Thanks guys, (and girls) who make the weekends funny and comedic. Won't mention names, (in case I forget anybody) but if I can share a joke with you, you should all know who you are.

3. My parents actually showed up for Parents' Day! And they were actually on time as well. You cannot imagine what a miracle that is. And I want to thank all the people who looked out for them, despite the other duties that you had: Wai Yin, Joyce, Arthur, Chewie... Thank you and I'm sorry if I was a sight ungrateful when I arrived in church. I really appreciate it and am glad to have friends like you guys.

4. That God sent all the right people to say 'hi' to my parents. I think they were more connected with each event that took place during the Parents' Day service because of that. Grace (who takes up offering and kidnapped my baby brother), Meng Hong (who takes pictures) who my Dad thought was the church photographer, Paul (who did the video) which my Dad said was brilliant, AJ & Wai Yin (who led the children church presentation) my step-mom thought it was really good, Kenny and Pui Kim (who gave the song item), Joyce (who gave the word), and not forgetting Uncle Tony who my baby brother literally leapt into his arms and wouldn't let go. Sorry Uncle Tony, neither my parents nor myself has ever seen him do that to anyone so we couldn't really help you.

Thanks guys, for making them feel welcome :)

Oh, Jesse Oei turned 1 on Saturday. Here's a picture...

And here's one of the entire Oei mob...

5. For the brats in my guitar class, I enjoy teaching you guys... Its fun and you guys make it easy. I especially enjoyed telling you AJ is coming to test you guys next week hehe. Don't worry you guys will be alright.

6. For the Eu family I consistently hang out with nowadays, thank you for all the seriousness tempered with good fun. I never imagined being more accepted and taken care of by any other family other than my own.

7. And finally, (hmm wow, number 7 somemore) always the first to notice my mood, the first to find out what's wrong and the first to cheer me up :) the 'best'est blessing God has put in my life.

On a side note, we (Joyce, her parents + me) went to Look-Out Point for dinner on Parents' Day night and it was really nice :) to me anyway and I think to her dad especially. Will post more pics soon... Pastor Hong Seng took most of the good ones.

Edited:
As promised, here's a pic with the view in the background. If you like city lights, this is the place to see it. Uh, except at KL Tower I guess.
